Hi everyone from a newly diagnosed but long suffering enthesitis patient.

I have suffered from the condition since my 20's and was finally diagnosed last summer, when 60. My problem has been that as an Ulcerative Colitis sufferer too and also having disc prolapses in my neck, they were masking everything else.

Now our challenge is to find meds that will deal with the UC and the enthesitis. Go of to a bad start. Reacted to Sulfasalazine. Was switched to MTX but after 3 months of tabs it was concluded that my UC was preventing me from absorbing the MTX. So I switched to injectable form and within three weeks was in hospital with a violent reaction.

So now we are in the interregnum while we decide what next.

I have used acupuncture successfully in the past for migraine. Is there any evidence it helps in RA type conditions?

What about TENS machines?

I am off work - have been since Feb 4th, signed off till August, and may to go onto company's long term sickness scheme.

Paul

When I was diagnosed three years ago I was in so much pain and did not know where to turn. My darling Husband on a whim bought me a TENS machine and boy did it help when I was early days into the pain killers. It was not very expensive. I think he bought it from Boots for around £30 and I used it so much on my ankles, knees, wrists and anywhere I could safely attach the pads. For me it really worked and I would highly recommend.

The only acupuncture I have had was when I went in for surgery. I am always extremely sick after surgery and a lovely anaesthetist stuck pins in my hands and gave me some pressure bands for my writs. He promised I would not be sick. He was right, it is the one and only time I have never been sick after surgery. To be honest it would not surprise me if acupuncture did work to relieve the pain of RA. To be honest, when you are at your wits end and in so much pain, I am game for trying anything that is legal.

Take care

Jackie

I haven't used acupuncture, but I have an acupressure mat that offers a degree of relief sometimes. The principle is kind of there...
